Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil hydro and petroleum coke plants, with total engineering capacity of over 18,500 megawatts and is building or acquiring more than 3,000 megawatts of new natural gas generation to join its 30,000 megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric and solar facilities.
This position can be filled as an Engineer III or Sr depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate
Provide engineering and technical oversight in the support of the Power Generation Performance Monitoring & Diagnostic (PM&D) center. Provide engineering support to aid the plants in identifying plant process, equipment and efficiency issues that could compromise unit safety, equipment integrity, or operational performance. Identify opportunities in the center, and throughout the fleet, in support of Power Generation key initiatives, including but not limited to fuel efficiency, enhanced monitoring, and remote unit operation.
Provide engineering oversight and guidance to PM&D personnel concerning identified operational and performance issues
Consult with the plants and Fleet Engineering support to resolve complex mechanical, electrical and performance issues
Develop, review and enhance Advanced Pattern Recognition assets using SmartSignal
Analyze operational data and provide recommendations for equipment assessments and root cause analysis
Lead the development and improvement of core PM&D processes
Lead the identification, evaluation and implementation of new processes or technology in support of Power Generation key initiatives, such as fuel efficiency, enhanced monitoring, and remote unit operation
- B.S. Degree in Engineering
Engineer III: at least 4 - 6 years of applicable and progressive experience
Sr Engineer: at least 6 years of applicable and progressive experience
At least 4 years of operations or monitoring experience in drum type, supercritical, or CCGT fossil fueled power plants
Candidate should be recognized system wide as knowledgeable in power plant operations. CCGT operation or monitoring experience is preferred
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Power plant operations knowledge with working experience at a generating station
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multi-projects simultaneously
Good verbal and written communications skills
Strong interpersonal skills, team player and/or leadership skills
Self-starter, independent worker, self-motivator
Expertise in Generation Protection Systems design, operation, and maintenance
Proficient technical expertise with computer software and database development
Skills in engineering analysis, problem solving and condition assessment
Thorough understanding of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area
Demonstrate a good understanding of power plant performance (thermal, physical, operational, and environmental) including the factors that impact performance
Ability to recognize off normal conditions and trends in critical equipment parameters during startup and shut down, as well as on-line operations.
Ability to provide decision making support to the plants regarding suggested improvements in equipment and unit operations
Strong computer skills, including how to effectively use the corporate computer tools provided, PI-DataLink, PI-ProcessBook, and standard computer codes for analysis and problem solving.
Demonstrate familiarity with advanced pattern recognition (APR) software. SmartSignal knowledge preferred.
