Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil hydro and petroleum coke plants, with total engineering capacity of over 18,500 megawatts and is building or acquiring more than 3,000 megawatts of new natural gas generation to join its 30,000 megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric and solar facilities.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Manage and oversee the operations of a large commercial power generation facility. Spearhead continual improvements to operational reliability, safety, compliance and financial performance. Ensure plant is prepared to meet system load requirements while proactively managing resources to ensure safe operations, regulatory compliance and organizational effectiveness. Utilize positive leadership to direct the work of others. Oversee technical staff, including maintenance, engineering, work management/planning and administrative support. Hire, train/develop personnel. Utilize experience and judgment to plan and achieve goals.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations Effectiveness:

  • Ensure a safe production environment that operates within all applicable regulatory compliance requirements, including environmental operating permits, NERC reliability standards, Sarbanes-Oxley processes, RTO requirements, and company policies.

  • Oversee safe and efficient operations; periodically conduct field inspections of plants, stations, or substations to ensure normal and safe operating conditions. Identify abnormalities with power production equipment or processes.

  • Drive excellence in all aspects of power plant operations. Establish organizational priorities and allocate resources to meet plant and business objectives. Adapt plans and adjust priorities as needed to meet the strategic and operational needs of the plant.

  • Identify and resolve complex technical, operational and organizational challenges. Effectively optimize operational effectiveness through identification, development and oversight of key business performance indicators and associated actions to close performance gaps.

  • Prepare and execute plant operational budgets. Implement processes to ensure optimal utilization of assets. Continuously monitor performance results against financial and operational goals. Ensure plant resources achieve annual goals and objectives for Power Generation business segment. Evaluate and champion gap closure actions consistently with the company's overall business strategy.

  • Meet system load requirements by ensuring adequate production levels. Work with system planning organization to optimize plant production.

  • Effectively collaborate with Engineering Procure Construct (EPC) contractors involved in new plant construction efforts as appropriate.

Leadership:

  • Effectively lead and direct the work of plant staff while coordinating with business unit support groups as needed. Oversee staff to provide operations support functions, such as engineering and technical support, maintenance, work planning and execution, regulatory compliance, and administrative support.

  • Manage operations and maintenance employees in the safe, efficient production of power and ensure effective training and development of personnel. Develop and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external interfaces as well as key strategic alliance partners.

  • Cultivate and strengthen within the plant a strong performance-driven culture with frequent engagement of employees at all levels. Guide employees and instill accountability to adhere to and actively support operations code of conduct, procedural use and adherence, and other standards necessary to reduce errors and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with key local officials in order to cultivate and maintain positive community relationships and to effectively resolve issues.

  • Lead effective recruitment, hiring, training and developing new plant staff..

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree , preferably in a technical field or eight years equivalent work experience

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience, with prior supervisory/ management experience (preferably in a plant environment)

  • Desired: Power Plant Operations experience

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

  • Technical expertise in power plant operations and maintenance with an understanding of the key drivers for safe, reliable, cost effective and compliant operation

  • Experienced project manager with excellent leadership skills

Preference for the following:

  • Regulatory knowledge (e.g. OSHA, NERC, FERC, Environmental, other…) associated with operation of a power plant

  • Financial management skills with the ability to develop and manage operational budgets

  • Business Acumen/Industry knowledge (regulated/non-regulated environment), including broad business knowledge with understanding of how utilities make money in a regulated market

  • Experience operating in an ISO, RTO or similar type market structure

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities--effective prioritization of competing issues, recognizing relevant constraints and opportunities

  • Consistently demonstrate effective leadership skills, including the ability to coach others and hold employees accountable

  • Display an openness and willingness to drive change as necessary within and across the enterprise.
