Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Strategic Communications Lead to join the Legal & Public Affairs organization located at The Woodlands, TX headquarters location. The Strategic Communications Lead is responsible for supporting the company’s internal communications activities and strategic initiatives. Key responsibilities include directing communication strategies and plans for company initiatives and announcements, managing a team of internal communications advisors, and working directly with senior leadership to ensure alignment on communications and support executive communications needs.

The Strategic Communications Lead plays a key role in driving employee engagement across the enterprise and working with multiple stakeholder groups to clearly translate the company’s vision, mission, and strategy into a cohesive plan for communications. Additionally, this individual will be expected to contribute to other areas of Corporate Communications such as crisis preparation and response and media relations.

The successful candidate will be results-oriented and agile with a collaborative mindset and ability to identify, engage and influence broad stakeholder groups across the organization.

This individual will report to the Corporate Communications Manager.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of three direct reports responsible for internal communications activities globally, with a focus on reaching thousands of workers in geographically diverse manufacturing and headquarters facilities

  • Directs the development of communication plans for internal initiatives and strategic projects that take into consideration audience segmentation, synergies with existing programs, and cadence of message delivery

  • Develops and reviews content to support company’s strategic initiatives – write stories and copy for company intranet, partner with production resources to create videos, develop presentations and talking points, and work with designers to develop compelling graphics

  • Leverages measurement tools to assess efficacy of communication campaigns and implement improvements from lessons learned

  • Builds open and trusting relationships with leaders and subject matter experts across the company to mentor and support their communication needs in a wide range of areas, including Manufacturing, Business Transformation, Human Resources, EHS, Legal, etc.

  • Provides communications counsel to leaders at all levels of the company, including the executive leadership team

  • Works collaboratively with Corporate Communications leads for external and digital and their teams to plan and execute announcements

  • Manages projects from start-to-finish, ensuring strict adherence to detailed timelines, review processes, quality standards, etc.

  • Serves as a member of the company’s crisis communications team

  • Contributes to the Corporate Communications team on media relations, sustainability and advocacy, and other projects as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum education of bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of 10 years of corporate communications experience

  • Demonstrated ability to manage full lifecycle communications initiatives, projects, or processes

  • Experience with reputation management, crisis management, and/or issue-based communications and employee/internal communications

  • Working knowledge of SharePoint, Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior supervisory experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline

  • Master’s or MBA

  • Agency, petrochemical, energy, or oil/gas industry experience
