Houston Methodist Public Safety Security Shift Coordinator - Nights in The Woodlands, Texas

JOB SUMMARY

At Houston Methodist, the Public Safety/Security Shift Coordinator position is responsible for assigned activities of the Public Safety/Security department. In addition to performing the duties and functions of Security Officer, this position provides assignments, leads investigations and reviews reports for accuracy and thoroughness, staff protection, traffic control assignments, and emergency response services. The Public Safety/Security Shift Coordinator position provides Public Safety/Security to patients, visitors, physicians, and employees. This position exercises sound judgment and is self-motivated to work with limited supervision. The Public Safety/Security Shift Coordinator must be flexible to work shift assignments, which includes all shifts and weekends. This position utilizes camera and card access systems.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE -30%

  • Utilizes clear communication using professional telephone etiquette. Communicates effectively with management and coworkers on tasks, processes and procedures. SERVICE - 25%

  • Secures premises and individuals by patrolling facilities; monitoring surveillance cameras and access points to permit authorized entry, ensuring all Security Officers do the same, as needed (EF)

  • Responds to all radio dispatches as necessary, answers calls and complaints and assesses and makes recommendations as needed for all emergent situations. Leads and maintains high customer satisfaction while providing the highest level of safety and security to patients, visitors, staff and assets. (EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY - 25%

  • Accurately communicates and/or generates and completes reports by recording occurrences, information, observations, surveillance activities and conducting witness interviews. Coordinates appropriate hand-off communication at change of shift (EF)

  • Responds immediately to all emergency codes and takes action appropriately. (EF)

  • Maintains a safe environment, following all policies and procedures for safety, hazardous material, emergency preparedness and HIPAA. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace. Participates in training, drills and actual events according to policies and procedures (EF)

  • Conducts quality audits and documents security systems checks to ensure proper functionality. (EF)

FINANCE - 10%

  • Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures. (EF)

  • Prioritizes daily tasks and provides leadership to team members on effective and efficient utilization of time, minimizing incidental overtime to achieve financial target and staffing needs. (EF)

  • Utilizes and maintains HM and department equipment according to manufacturer specifications. Uses resources efficiently. (EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 10%

  • Supports Houston Methodist and department goals and vision. Identifies and implements innovative solutions for practice or workflow changes to improve department operations. Implements actions that promote a workplace safety culture and proactively prevents workplace violence. (EF)

  • Assumes responsibility for self-growth and development by participating in in-services programs and continuing education. Participates on various council committee meetings, as requested. (EF)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)

  • Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years security or related field experience

  • Healthcare experience preferred

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

  • Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Private Security Registration non-commissioned Security Officer - submission of application within 14 days of hire date, and obtained within one year of employment

  • Valid Texas Driver's License, or must obtain Texas Driver's license within 90 days of hire

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Certification within 60 days of hire

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations

  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles

  • Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office software

  • Demonstrates the ability to access information both in the department and within the hospital system to support the department as appropriate

  • Must be able to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and function calmly in stressful situations including handling of, or exposure to confidential/sensitive information

  • Ability to assess and evaluate information effectively, ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately, attention to detail and implementing management plans

Houston Methodist The Woodlands opened in 2017 as the eighth hospital in the Houston Methodist system. This 187-bed, 470,000-square-foot, full-service, acute care hospital offers many of the same services as our flagship hospital in the Texas Medical Center.
