Job Summary:

The Manager, Employee Relations & Compliance works with business leaders and employees in managing employee relations, compliance and leaves of absence. Provides consultation, advice and oversight of HR-related processes and procedures. This position will sit in Dallas or San Antonio.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct workplace investigations such as allegations of discrimination, harassment, Title VII violations, retaliation, hostile work environment and termination determinations.

  • Provide disciplinary actions and involuntary termination risk reviews and support managers and employees during the resolution process.

  • Maintain strong working relationships that include open communications and collaboration with business leadership, HR business partners, Legal, and other teams that are involved with or impacted by guidance from Employee Relations.

  • Ensures equitable application of organization policies and procedures while applying sound knowledge of relevant employee relations and applicable state and federal compliance laws.

  • Determine facts and provide documentation to resolve issue(s). Maintaining required documentation within case management system, including intake and investigative notes, supporting documents and final reports.

  • Acts as a liaison with the Legal team to address cases that may result in potential legal action.

  • Oversee leave of absence claim management in accordance with applicable federal and state laws (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.)

  • Ensure compliance of LOA and disability programs; advise markets on posting compliance documents

  • Adjudicate escalated background screening results in accordance with federal/local laws, regulatory requirements, to determine eligibility for hire for pre-employment candidates.

  • Administer and respond to unemployment claims.

  • Develop, initiate, maintain and revise policies and procedures in Corporate Employee Guide.

  • Manage Programs (e.g., Relocation, MVR, annual Code of Conduct Training, Anti- Harassment & Discrimination, Affirmative Action Planning, Reductions in Force, E-Verify/I9 etc.)

  • Keep apprised of federal, state and local laws and regulations to ensure company compliance.

  • Oversee the activities of Compliance & Leaves Analyst and back-up as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field.

  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM, SPHR) certification preferred.

Work Experience

  • 8 years of experience in Employee Relations in US publicly traded small to mid-size organization;

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Experience in a multi-state environment (including California) with exempt, non-exempt and union employees.


  • In-depth knowledge of knowledge of applicable federal and state laws pertinent to benefits administration including FMLA, ADA, ERISA, HIPAA, Worker's Comp, etc.

  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues, recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems

  • Ability to ensure customer service and exercise discretion and professionalism when handling highly confidential and sensitive information.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HRIS (preferably Workday).

Physical Demands

  • Employee must have the ability to sit and/or stand at a desk for a minimum of 8 hours a day and complete tasks requiring repetitive use of hands.

  • Employee must have the ability to see written documents, computer screens and to adjust focus.

  • This job is performed in a temperature controlled office environment.

Other Requirements

  • Some overnight travel (up to 10%) for meetings and training required.
