Scope of Job

The UTRGV School of Medicine is charged with addressing the pressing health issues plaguing the Rio Grande Valley region. Its mission is to produce altruistic, knowledgeable and skilled practitioners committed to serving populations in need, especially in the South Texas border region, in collaboration with other healthcare professionals and patients and their families. This situation offers opportunities for innovation and ingenuity to create, develop and implement novel approaches for healthcare service delivery, workforce growth, community based research, and models of academic-community partnerships. A major component of the UTRGV SOM strategic plan is the Institute of Neurosciences, charged with developing integrated clinical, research and training programs in subspecialty areas of brain health care. We recently received funding to create additional programs in neurology sub-specialties, including Neuromodulation. A full time faculty member with subspecialty training in movement disorders who is the Program Director is necessary to develop, implement and administrate the program. The Program will participate actively in residency training, research initiatives, and engage community based institutions as a part of our commitment to caring for the underserved. To successfully implement the Neurodegenerative Disorders program the successful candidate will have an academic track record, independent research and documented experience in the subspecialty.The successful candidate is expected to maintain a clinical practice, supervise residents, teach medical students and develop an area of scholarship.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Psychiatry with fellowship training in Neuromodulation possess or be eligible for a Texas medical license, qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry & Neurology in the UTRGV School of Medicine and appropriate hospital staff appointments.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code ยง51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
