Systems engineering position responsible for overseeing the project management of the design and development of new implantable and external batteries of various chemistries, both primary and secondary cells by outside vendors and sustaining activities of existing batteries in production. Generation of battery test and safety documentation for FDA submissions. Job responsibilities will include some mechanical sustaining support of existing products.
Generate battery performance requirements and product specifications for performance, system compatibility and testability based on size, capacity, chemistry, safety and application.
Work with R&D in the form factor of the battery for use in internal and external applications.
Manage and coordinate outside battery manufacturer’s design and development of implantable and external batteries.
Design comprehensive battery test protocols, qualification documents, test plans & reports for the qualification of batteries.
Review battery manufacturer’s documentation, audit manufacturer’s facilities and manufacturing processes to assure they meet GMP and FDA requirements.
Work with a cross-functional team engineering teams in the design & develop of test fixtures for verification of cell capacity, self-discharge, pulse capacity and other testing.
Generate performance, safety and test reports and any other documentation for support of regulatory submissions to the FDA.
Provide cutting edge battery performance expertise and advise fellow engineers.
Perform design reviews, DFMEA, risk and failure analysis.
Monitor the advancements in battery technology and processes and advise the team accordingly.
BSEE or MSME required, MS preferred and 6+ years of related experience.
Design, test or validation of electronic systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to clearly present data to cross-functional teams and to non-experts.
Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
Ability to analyze and criticize existing and new designs and propose suitable solutions for issues.
Relies on data to justify technical decisions.
Ability to clearly explain complex technical issues and justify technical decisions.
Self-motivated with excellent time management skills and entrepreneurial spirit.
Ability to work in close cooperation with a cross-functional teams of professionals.
Understanding of the various battery chemistries of primary and secondary cells: CFX, SVO, LTC, Li-ion
Knowledgeable of biocompatible materials
In-depth knowledge of Li-ion battery operation and performance including charging, discharging, safety, impedance, aging, cycle life, temperature effects, failure modes, handling and pack assembly methods, processes and procedures.
Experience in collecting reviewing and analyzing all aspects of Li-ion battery related data including fuel gauging.
Solid experience with data collection, data storage, data manipulation and analysis.
Proficiency in developing test scripts for parsing and analyzing large amounts of data.
Developing of test procedures from requirement specifications with minimum input from design engineering.
Experience in writing detailed and accurate test protocols.
Experience in synthesizing easy to understand data summaries.
Experience in design, testing and troubleshooting rechargeable batteries and mixed signal, precision electronics circuits
