Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union Real Estate Underwriter in Pasadena, Texas

Gulf Coast Educators FCU is adding a Real Estate Underwriter to the Real Estate department! Located in the Mortgage & Insurance Branch, this position will deliver high quality service to both internal and external members. Evaluate all aspects of loan application for conventional & portfolio loans to determine approval or denial based on risk, investor guidelines, government regulations and other applicable risk specific to the loan program.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes current financial position of members to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Responsible for underwriting Home Equity, Home Improvement, Land, and In-house Mortgage loans according to lending guidelines. Makes decision to approve, disapprove, or forward the loan request to VP Lending, COO, EVP or CEO.

  • Review and approve Closing Disclosures and Funding Approvals to ensure the credit union meets RESPA compliance guidelines.

  • Reviews and makes decision to approve or deny real estate appraisals.

  • Will be required to get licenses to back up the loan officer in taking applications as needed and help post-closing with any outstanding issues as needed. Stay up to date with ongoing regulations and changes in lending requirements (i.e. Webinars, live meeting, seminars, etc.).

  • Responsible for compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and all governmental regulations and Credit Union Policies and guidelines. Responsible for complying with Federal Rules and Regulations as required by NCUA. Responsible for identifying reportable transactions under the Bank Secrecy Act, obtaining required information and reporting transactions.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

  • To ensure that all approved loans comply with established loan standards.

  • To maintain accurate complete records of all files and activity.

  • To maintain knowledge of all mortgage products and rates, both within the credit union and from the industry overall.

  • To effectively communicate with co-workers, Loan Officers and management.

Knowledge and Skills:Experience: One year to three years of similar or related experience.

Education: (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.

Interpersonal Skills: Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Other Skills: Knowledge of the secondary market and experience with first and second mortgage residential real estate lending. Strong public relations and communications skills. Must be tech savvy, able to type and have a basic knowledge or experience in using PC based Windows applications (Outlook, Excel, Word). Must be efficient and organized with a pleasant, outgoing personality. Must be goal oriented and ability to multi-task.
