SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
The Systems Development Engineer will be a member of the Texas Test Reliability Team. The team is given broad responsibility to improve quality of test through organizational, technological, and process-based methods. The Systems Development Engineer is expected to own specific projects which fit into a larger roadmap designed to accomplish the team’s goals. Projects may vary significantly in subject and scope. This person is expected to be comfortable with a teamwork-based approach involving many different groups throughout the company. Team members are expected to spend 1-2 years in this role before taking on a different role within the company.
Take ownership of projects related to the following topics:
Test plan development
Test report documentation and communication
Test operations safety
Data review and analysis tools
Evaluation of our organization’s role within SpaceX
New areas identified by the team
Work closely with site leadership to solve problems affecting our organization’s quality of test
Collaborate across disciplines including engineering, production, test, launch, enterprise resource planning, supply chain, quality, and all levels of management to meet objectives
Influence the strategic direction of the team by identifying new project opportunities and incorporating them into the team’s roadmap
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field
1+ years of engineering experience in a design, build, or test operations environment
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
5+ years of experience in multidisciplinary engineering roles ranging from individual technical contribution to project management
Testing experience, particularly related to cradle-to-grave campaign management, operations, test plan creation, and data analysis
Design and fabrication experience in any of the following fields: structural, fluid, data and controls, and power systems engineering
Programming experience in any of the following languages: Python, SQL, Java, VBA, C++, C#
Proactive, self-motivated, driven, and committed to a team approach
Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, both independently and with a team
Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across disciplines and with multiple levels of management
Strong communication and technical skills
Flight hardware is typically built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
Physical effort including sitting or standing for extended periods of time, lifting and carrying weight such as materials or equipment up to 30 lbs. unassisted
Work performed in an environment with exposure to fumes, odors and noise
Occasionally exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain)
Must be available to work extended hours and weekends, which varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility required
