St. Joseph Health Pharmacy Technician Certified - Full Time/Evenings in Lubbock, Texas

Job Summary:

Direct supervision of Staff Pharmacist to accomplish delivery of patient medications, utilizing personnel and automatic dispensing machines.

Essential Functions: Describe the 5 - 10 duties / responsibilities that must be performed by this position.

Essential Functions:

  1. Dispense new medication orders to be sent to nursing station including expediting STAT orders.

Observing all legal and procedural steps to ensure final check by a pharmacist before release of

the drug to the nursing units.

  1. Pick up and return meds for credits; enter credits in pharmacy system and return meds to proper

place in pharmacy.

  1. Transport new medication orders to each nursing station, as required.

  2. Refill or load medications to each nursing station's Pyxis machine, as required.

  3. Do floor checks on nursing and ancillary units.

  4. Do dating checks.

  5. Exhibits good communication skills in course of daily duties. Works with public and employees at

front window.

  1. Answers phone calls in a polite manner and process any request for missing meds, drug

compatibilities, etc. Enter ht, wt, and allergies. Refer questions requiring professional judgement

to the pharmacist.

  1. Restock medication trays, such as crash carts, anesthesia trays and other floorstock medication

trays.

  1. Extemporaneously prepare and pull medications for cartfill. Package dosage forms into unit

dose packaging observing all rules and record keeping requirements.

  1. Assist with stocking and putting up of the drug order as required

  2. Assist with obtaining needed drugs in absence of buyer through borrowing, initiating delivery

services, etc.

  1. Maintain -dispensing and Pyxis area in a clean, neat and orderly manner

  2. Exhibit team work at all times. Assist with any job when asked with positive attitude and

attention to detail. Complete tasks in a timely manner.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education: High School graduate or equivalent

License/Certification: Possesses Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and Pharmacy Technician Registration issued by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Continued certification and registration is to be maintained.
