Job Description

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks an Assistant Professor of Music (tenure-track, 9-month position) to begin Fall 2021. Duties include teaching applied trumpet, brass methods, and brass ensemble courses. A reduced load (2-2 for the first two years) is provided to allow for other duties, such as creative/scholarly activities consistent with a tenure-track position as well as recruiting/mentoring students and serving on departmental, University, and professional committees.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate with focus on trumpet. Candidates applying for this position may have research, creative accomplishments and teaching interests in any area of music performance or education. ABDs may also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before the start of Fall 2021 semester. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate and maintain a commitment to teaching, recruitment, creative activity or scholarly research, and participating in service activities appropriate for the candidate’s given rank. Significant recruiting is expected at the high school level.

TAMIU is a growing university of over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bi-lingual, bi-cultural city with a population of about 250,000 on the U.S./Mexico border. For more information, visit We offer a reduced teaching load for junior faculty. After the first two years, course load for junior faculty is 3 courses per semester, although we offer opportunities for course releases. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered by the university.
