Gallant Builders LLC Civil Estimator in La Porte, Texas
The Civil Estimator reads specifications, blueprints and apply local, state, and federal requirements to generate project estimates. The position requires creating total cost estimates based on labor, materials, equipment, indirect expenses, overhead and profit (including self-performed and subcontractor work). The Civil Estimator provides creative, cost-effective, safe solutions to solve actual/prospective client challenges and address their needs according to a scope and budget and works to maintain/improve business relationships to enable future business growth.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Explore documentation in order to gain a deep understanding of the project requirements
Select, measure, and track important metrics
Identify project labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, written specifications, and related documents.
Conduct site visits and attend pre-bid meetings to understand the project scope.
Conduct review and take-off of blueprints.
Calculate the price of time, labor and materials, job specifically, prepare accurate and complete estimates accordingly
Prepare time charts to determine the length of time and number of workers needed to efficiently complete mass production, taking into unforeseen circumstances
Prepare relevant and reliable forecasts
Create schedules that correlate to scope priced
Conduct complex risk analysis activities
Be available during the construction process when unforeseen circumstances might demand a new estimate for materials and manpower.
Sourcing and delivery of materials
Maintain trusting relationships with suppliers, customers, and colleagues

Report to work at the designated start time
Must be willing and able to travel to work sites, which are in different locations around our division on occasion
Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures
Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co–workers or supervisors with other duties as required
Must have/maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record with a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards.
Must be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment.
Strong knowledge of civil construction with hands on experience working with dirt, concrete and structural steel
Read and understand complex drawings and blueprints and other construction specifications
Proficient in layout, form work and setting bolts; concrete placing and finishing
Experience with construction technology, building design, architecture, and surveying
Work well with a wide range of people, resolve problems quickly, and share information and experience with staff
Problem solving skills, critical thinking are required
General knowledge of scheduling software. Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
Must be detail oriented and goal driven
Minimum of 8 years of experience estimating civil inside an Industrial work setting with a strong emphasis in concrete
Strong communication and organizational skills
Experience in Conceptual, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction document budgets and estimates
Frequently required to stand, walk or sit and can remain in stationary positions
Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
Continually required to talk or hear
Frequently utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard
Occasionally walks, stoops, kneels, crouches, balances (including on uneven/unstable surfaces)
Rarely - Crawls, climbs stairs/ladders, carries/lifts documents/plans & equipment.
Frequently - works in office environment in controlled climate
Occasionally - travels to and visits sites and may tolerate exposure to the elements (cold, heat, damp, humidity, rain, snow, ice) and typical construction environment elements (heights, particulates, fumes, etc.)
