HARRIS COUNTY Voter Outreach Coordinator in Houston, Texas
Position Description
The Voter Outreach Coordinator will build and maintain relationships with various community groups and organizations to deliver the Elections Administration’s vision within the local community through outreach programs, organizing events, coordinating volunteers, assisting with writing and releasing public materials, and developing public relations strategies that will promote the organizations mission.
*OUTREACH *
- Attend and present to overall outreach request from various communities with an emphasis on the African American community i.e. civic clubs, churches, organizations, senior living facilities, chambers, schools, colleges, political groups, etc.
- Plan and conduct community meetings to convey information on elections and voter registration information
- Support activities related to the distribution of election information in the community via digital advertising, radio, and newspaper print media
- Assist in distribution and preparation of voter outreach materials, including official documents, presentations, and other items
- Perform other necessary responsibilities associated with the conduct of community outreach in the Elections Administrator’s Office
- Distribution of educational voting materials in specific communities regarding the information needed to register to vote and access the voting process
- Coordinate the interdepartmental outreach goals across departments
COMMUNICATIONS
- Serve as a media spokesperson for the Elections Administrators office
- Assist with distribution of press releases and external memos
- Assist with daily workflow of Elections Administration’s voter outreach office and communications including calls and in person visits
- Respond to constituent questions and concerns
- Build and maintain a list of contact information for key external contacts

Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree *and *one (1) year of community organizing or relations experience
OR
- Associates degree *and *three (3) years of community organizing or relations experience
OR
- High School or GED equivalency *and *five (5) years of community organizing or relations experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Ability to work well on a team to accomplish goals
- Ability to work on multiple projects with clear deadlines
- Ability and willingness to work with a diverse range of groups, including all communities, ethnicities, religions, and cultural and social groups/backgrounds

HOURS/WORK SHIFT:
- Full-time position
- Hours typically Monday through Friday | 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
- Overtime hours are required
- Weekends and evenings as necessary
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets. During election cycles, this job requires day to day attendance of events, meetings, outre0ach efforts around Harris County, which requires physical travel. Physical demands include traveling with outreach packets, demo voting equipment, and other necessary materials.
Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
