What we want
The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Assistant to serve as a member of the laboratory team in the Center for Epigenetics and Disease Prevention. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. Required Education and Experience:
- Appropriate bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Perform all job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or relevant field.
Experience in laboratory work, general molecular biology, and biochemistry research. Handling rodents in laboratory work. Perform necropsies of rodents or other animals.
Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient in molecular biology techniques such as Western blotting, qPCR, RT-PCR, cell culture and cloning.
Experience in performing rodent tumor bioassays following approved protocols using intra-oral, intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injections, especially in colon cancer models.
Perform cell culture experiments and molecular techniques such as qPCR, RT-PCR, Western blotting, 3D cultures, transient transfections, co-immunoprecipitation and Proximity Ligation Assay (PLA) to investigate protein-protein interactions and epigenetic marks of specified histone deacetylase and bromodomain inhibitors.
Conduct and monitor breeding of animals as directed by the principal investigator, co-investigator, or the Technical Lab Coordinator. Responsible for keeping accurate records of animal logs pertaining to breeding of rodents, genotyping data, body weights, and general health status during tumorigenicity studies. Dose animals using pre-approved IACUC protocols involving intraoral gavage, intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injections. Assist with rodent colonoscopies, polyp resections, and necropsies.
Document and interpret results to the principal investigator and the co-investigator of protein and gene expression of relevant target genes. Assist with the preparation of research literature during manuscript and grant submissions. Participate actively in weekly lab meetings within the Center and participating program projects. Participate in other animal projects within the laboratory and the Center as directed.
Prepare laboratory reagents and solutions, and maintain laboratory equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
