MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Assistant II - Experimental Therapeutics in Houston, Texas

The Experimental Therapeutics department is leading the effort to coordinate all stages of the therapeutic discovery and development process. Our initiative is to design new, more effective and specific drugs with less toxicity, targeted for individualized therapy and accelerate the delivery of these new drug therapies from the research bench to the patient's bedside.

Our mission begins with hypothesis-driven research that identifies and validates targets; continues with the discovery, development and design of biological therapies and drug agents; and is followed by pre-clinical and clinical trials – with each step working toward the goal of personalized medicine.

Research Assistant II - Experimental Therapeutics

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II position is to provide technical assistance in carrying out various research projects while following standard operating procedures for the laboratory.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Research Participation & Technique Application

** Participates in scientific research projects under the direction of the principal investigator, Dr Calin or designee.

** Applies different techniques used in molecular & cellular biology and drug carrier related to non-coding RNAs, such as expression analyses, cloning, infection of cell lines with microRNAs or long ncRNAs vectors.

Research Design, Reagents Preparation, Data Tracking & Submission

** Functions in an independent manner in the design of research experiments.

** Prepares reagents such as buffers, plasmids, and stock solutions. (Including the liposomal preparation and proliferation assays, testing of compounds, transfer buffers, running buffers, TBS-T, protein standards, loading buffer, etc.)

** Compiles research data and submits results to superiors for inclusion in publications, grants, or protocols. Utilizes the following applications: word processing, spreadsheet software, and graphic and statistical programs.

Seminars, Scientific Articles & Teaching Others

* Attends seminars and reads scientific articles related to experiments being executed. * Contributes to writing papers and prepare figures with the principal investigator, Dr. Calin or designee.

** Participates and helps other lab members to promote ongoing projects in the lab. Assists fellow lab members in the implementation of techniques such as protein purification, preparation of DNA and RNA, western blotting, tissue culture, IHC using automated instrumentation, microscopy techniques, and image analysis.

Other duties as assigned

Education Required: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Experience Required: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
