Baker Hughes, a GE company has an opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer – Unconventional Completions supporting Completions tools at CTI, Emmott, and Navigation Blvd. facilities in Houston, TX. The Unconventional Completions Engineering group is looking for an experienced Design Engineer/Technology to join a fast-paced group that provides technical and manufacturing support for the Unconventional product line equipment worldwide. The position requires working closely with various internal departments and/or external customers to ensure product performance and integrity. Candidate will be required to assist with projects including: New Product Development, Field & Tech Support, Manufacturing & Plant support, Qualification Testing, Engineering Change Requests and Engineering Change Notices, and custom-product development for Frac Plug products and accessories.
·Executes a variety of engineering responsibilities for new, modified, and existing Lower Completions products
·Performs conceptual and detailed design activities, including 3D CAD design, layouts, calculations, manufacturing drawings, tolerances studies
·Perform component and system analysis, identifying stress levels, design solutions, and technical risks
·Conducts formal and informal product design reviews to iterate and improve product designs through continual collaboration
·Design qualification testing fixtures and compose detailed test procedures
·Conducts and assists in the assembly and lab testing of prototypes
·Draft technical manual documentation of new products with review and approval of supervisor
·Provide basic technical assistance to worldwide field operations and plant personnel for new and existing products
·Assist in project planning, creating development time and cost estimates.
·Handles special projects, as assigned.
Associate’s Degree (in Mathamatcis or Mechanical Drafter) with 5+ years of experience or Bachelor’s degree (Mechanical Engineering) with 2+ years of experience
Able to work independently and as a member of a team
Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
3D CAD software experience
Must have ability to work “hands on” in a test lab facility and be able to lift up to 25 lbs regularly
·Experience in the design of down hole oil field equipment strongly preferred
·Experience with Completions
·Experience with Sand Control Tools and/or Sand Control valves
·Understanding of basic oilfield practices and applications
·Experience with product design including stress calculations, tolerances studies
·Familiarity with qualification testing and test fixture design
·Knowledge of manufacturing processes/design for manufacturability
·Experience with Solidworks
