Overall Purpose of Job:
You are an Analyst-level corporate finance professional, supporting primarily high-yield and sponsor-backed clients in MUFG’s oil and gas industry vertical corporate banking business contained in MUFG’s Wholesale and Investment Banking. This is a critical function of assessing risk factors associated with a credit and determining appropriate rating based on established policies and guidelines. You will be responsible for the active credit management of a designated client portfolio, utilizing solid credit, forecasting and analytical skills. Further, you will provide continuous oversight of portfolio clients, monitoring for the client for potential upgrades, downgrades and credit deterioration with the goal of improving net income and reducing credit costs.
You support the management of high-yield and sponsor-backed clients in the oil and gas industry vertical loan portfolio inclusive of reserve-based upstream, independent upstream, midstream and refining clients.
You will perform due diligence and regularly scheduled evaluation of loan portfolio for which they support.
You prepare detailed credit analyses and required credit application according to policy including evaluation of corporate, regulatory and industry risk, historical operating performance, projected operating performance and capital structure.
Using financial models for both credit application process and Quarterly Credit Watch presentations, you will be responsible for the coordination and communication of account information across various constituencies throughout the organization.
Responsible for knowledge of country/risk factors on a macro level.
Responsible for knowledge of particular industries and all current events in assigned portfolio utilizing internal and external sources.
You have oversight of covenants compliance database and facility closing due diligence, including documentation.
You attend RM (Relationship Manager) customer meetings when appropriate as well assist with special projects as assigned.
Advanced Credit / Underwriting Solutions:
You work within a deal team environment (with Global Relationship Management, Syndications & Mitsubishi UFJ Securities) supporting Senior PMs (Portfolio Managers) in the development and analysis of financing structures/strategies to support/identify M&A, funds sourcing and corporate liability management opportunities.
You'll prescreen proposed transactions to identify critical structural issues and risks, balancing institutional policy with business development needs.
Work on structured credit transactions.
Understanding and maintaining base industry knowledge of industries represented in portfolio, including technical aspects, regulatory issues and unusual credit product activity.
You participate in client and bank meetings as necessary.
Policy and Deal Advocacy:
You assist Senior PMs to craft and influence policy development by participating in committees, project teams, or transaction discussions.
Supporting the Senior PM, communicate and negotiate with the Credit Department for the Americas for transaction approval, including final hold level strategies to ensure alignment of risk strategy and policy.
You evaluate and establish appropriate ratings for transactions and correlate appropriate exposure level with regard to exposure on both a transaction and group level.
Ensure internal and external compliance with policy and regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with internal policy and procedural requirements by understanding and adhering to U.S. Wholesale and Investment Banking Operating Procedures, General Credit Policies, Procedures for Credit Ratings and Credit Rules.
A Bachelors degree.
A Minimum of 1 year of related experience in a financial, banking or accounting role.
A solid credit and analytical background, inclusive of a solid accounting knowledge
Experience with or knowledge of financial modeling is preferred.
