City of Garland, TX Maintenance Crew Leader (Facilities Management) in Garland, Texas

Responsible for scheduling and coordinating work duties for painting, power washing, and small renovation work in City buildings. Also, responsible for maintaining communication with supervisors and workers, as well as other City departments, to ensure the completion and quality of assigned duties.

Target Hiring Range: $16.90/hr - $20.50/hr

  • Maintain City buildings with a primary focus on repairs and/or renovations that include simple framing, sheetrock, tape & bed, texture, and paint activities.

  • Clean exterior building surfaces including sidewalks and drives using a power washer, sweeper, chemicals, and other cleaning equipment or agents.

  • Ensure a clean and safe job site.

  • Supervise, assist, and train crewmembers in their daily duties. Coordinate and assign daily duties to staff.

  • Verify high quality work is completed for every task and provide constructive feedback and training when changes or enhancements need to be made.

  • Operate various power and hand tools to assist in the maintenance and upgrade to City buildings.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of various building materials and processes.

  • Provide input regarding hiring and disciplinary actions.

  • May assist with the other maintenance activities including minor plumbing and electrical work as needed.

  • Assist in coordination of maintenance, repairs and projects with other city departments and outside vendors as needed.

Education/ Experience:

  • 2-4 year experience in building maintenance or related field

  • 1 year supervisory experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used to maintain buildings and offices Comprehensive knowledge of finishing techniques involving sheetrock replacement, tape & bed, paint and texture

  • Skill operating equipment and required tools

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to comprehend written and oral work assignments and perform work as assigned

  • Ability to clearly and concisely deliver instructions

  • Ability to perform basic tasks using a computer, such as close out work orders and respond to emails

Valid Class C Texas driver’s license required

The incumbent works in a typical office environment most of the time; however, there will be times that work will be performed outside. May be exposed to extremes of heat or cold, rain, humidity, noxious odors, dust, fumes, and physical stress from exertion, lifting and climbing ladders. Additional physical tasks will include lifting, squatting, bending, stooping, walking, and carrying supplies, as needed, to accomplish the tasks of the activity on a daily basis. Requires the ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds. Travel to various sites will occur.
