FACILITY SUMMARY: Las Palmas Medical Center is a Level III Trauma, 186-private patient room, full service acute care hospital. Las Palmas Medical Center offers comprehensive healthcare and provides leading-edge technologies. Our Lifecare Center offers inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs, as well as our fully equipped fitness and wellness center in one convenient location. We also house the region’s only Kidney Transplant Center.
We are located on the Westside of El Paso, Texas close to the University of Texas El Paso campus. We provide exceptional patient care services to the El Paso and Fort Bliss communities, as well as Southern New Mexico and West Texas Regions.
POSITION SUMMARY: To provide patient care under the direction of the RN, using the nursing process, in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Las Palmas Medical Center.
POPULATION SERVED: Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Acute medical/surgical care of diseases and conditions including but not limited to : cardiovascular (cardiac medical only) pulmonary, neuro, GI, GU, skeletal/muscular, renal ortho conditions and diseases including but not limited to: AMI, CAD, PVD, CVA/TIA, COPD, CHF, shock, renal failure, metabolic disorders, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Demonstrates knowledge and application of sterile technique, instruments and supplies needed for surgical cases.
Communicates, interacts and participates in teamwork on the unit.
Practices, endorses and provides customer service skills to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.
Demonstrates knowledge and respect of the patients right to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality.
Communicates and participates in patient care activities in direct conjunction with the Registered Nurse.
Demonstrates knowledge and application of basic patient care.
Monitors and documents information regarding patient activities, as directed by the RN.
Performs clerical duties and inventory control.
Sets priorities and organizes the workload on a nursing unit.
Enter MD orders
Keep track of unit inventory
Other duties as assigned.
DAILY DUTIES 1. Updated the board in each room
Hourly rounds -check patients and family (water, diapers, nipples, formula, sheets, towels, etc).
Offer bath and change pajama daily
Check the fridge temp and log daily
Check expire food in the fridge, check for open containers, unlabeled foods and discard food in bad condition in each fridge.
Maintain clean fridges
Offer refreshments to the patient and family member.
Keep the play room clean and everything in order
Keep the nurse station clean and everything in order.
At end of shift stock each room with gloves, diapers, wipes, formula, nipples and extra baby blankets.
Keep PPD boxes stocked
Remove peripheral IV
Other duties as assigned by RN
Night shift checks the patient's weight before they go sleep.
REQUIRED LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION 1. BCLS Certification/CNA certification
1. High school diploma or GED 2. Nurses Aide Certification
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE : 1. Will receive training on the unit.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 1. Health care experience preferred 2. Reads and writes basic English with the basic skills necessary to understand and transfer physician's orders. 3. Ability to move in excess of 50 pounds, with assistance from other staff. 4. Effective communication skills; both orally and written. 5. Computer skills needed. 6. Ability to work with others in a team 7. Strong customer service skills relating to patients, physicians, and staff.
