Position Summary

The Inbound Subrogation Teams play a critical role in resolving claims presented against Kemper’s policy holders and recovering loss dollars paid to or on behalf of Kemper’s policy holders when there is another responsible party. The Subrogation Team Manager 2 provides technical expertise and guidance to Subrogation Specialists on high complexity claims and ensures file handling meets or exceeds all company guidelines and state requirements. They ensure focus is placed on quality contact, accuracy, and claims resolution.

The Subrogation Manager oversees a team of Subrogation Specialists who are responsible for addressing subrogation demands and out of pocket expenses presented by claimants and/or claimant carriers against Kemper policy holders who have insufficient limits to cover all related PD liability claims. The manager oversees the process of reviewing demands presented, analyzing available PD liability limits, referring demands to MD Desk Audit when appropriate, and calculating pro-rated offers based upon assessed liability and the merits of each claim. The manager also oversees the process of securing appropriate releases from all third parties prior to issuing payments.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provides onboarding and training to staff members, including requesting systems accesses and conducting training specific to each staff members’ role.

  • Communicates job expectations, provides coaching and counseling, and conducts regular developmental discussions with Subrogation Specialists.

  • Collaborates with other Kemper Leaders to ensure all team, department and company goals are met.

  • Conducts monthly one-on-one meetings and weekly huddles with staff members to discuss handling trends, address training obstacles and opportunities, and to ensure goals are being met.

  • Manages time off requests and attendance and adjusts claims rotation as necessary.

  • Reviews and analyzes data to determine current productivity and establish opportunities for improvement.

  • Responds to staff member claim questions in a timely manner to make sure the claim moves forward.

  • Works claim system activities and responds to emails and voicemails promptly to ensure staff members are delivering a best in class customer service experience.

  • Performs required monthly audits on open and closed files. Documents observations in TeamThink system and communicates results to staff.

  • Ensures staff members complete required department and company training.

  • Promotes staff member engagement through birthday and milestone celebrations and other team building activities.

  • Reviews and approves reserve and authority requests as appropriate.

  • Ensures that the Subrogation Specialists are providing timely and professional responses to all incoming communications, including mail, email, telephone calls and voicemail.

  • Works in multiple systems (Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Intercompany Arbitration Forums/TRS, E-Subro Hub, Claims Center, etc.) to assist Subrogation Specialists with timely claims resolution.

  • Provides coaching and guidance to Subrogation Specialists regarding appropriate techniques for handling complex matters, which may include preparing effective contentions for arbitration filings; developing negotiation strategies to resolve limits claims; and addressing policy holder concerns due to long-tail of complex claims.

  • Must be familiar with negligence laws, motor vehicle laws, and statute of limitations for all states.

  • Must make difficult file decisions based upon the merits of each claim, including referral to Litigation Department, escalation to Claims Director, etc.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • Superior communication skills required to build relationships with business partners to move towards achieving department and company goals.

  • A minimum of 3 years prior leadership experience preferred.

  • A minimum of 7 years of auto claim handling and/or arbitration experience required.

  • Must have good analytical skills necessary to evaluate staff production requirements and results, resolve problems, and interpret internal reporting.

  • Must obtain and maintain all applicable licensing for required states to which assigned.
