The International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) (http://www.iodp.org/) is an international research collaboration that coordinates seagoing expeditions (http://iodp.tamu.edu/scienceops/expeditions.html) to study the history of the Earth recorded in sediments and rocks beneath the ocean floor. The JOIDES Resolution Science Operator (JRSO) operates the scientific drillship JOIDES Resolution (http://iodp.tamu.edu/publicinfo/drillship.html) on behalf of the National Science Foundation. What we want

The Shipping and Receiving Specialist, under general supervision, evaluates and maintains strategies for supply chain transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency and minimize shipping costs to seaports around the world. Assists in monitoring safety procedures in the Shipping/Receiving loading dock area and shop. Responsible for compliance with hazardous material handling and shipping procedures, regulations, and document management. What you need to know

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Four years of related experience in receiving, storing, and issuing a variety of materials, supplies, and equipment or equivalent warehousing experience

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must have a State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Good process management and decision-making skills will be important to safely and successfully complete these operations

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • Ability to lift or move heavy objects

  • Work in hot and/or cold warehouse conditions without climate control

  • Work outdoors at remote storage facilities without climate control

  • Must work in a manner consistent with TAMU and IODP-JRSO safe warehouse operations, and encourage and promote safe operations when working with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Prior forklift training and experience in inventory tracking systems and warehouse operations

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and forklift operator’s certification

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of purchase order, invoice, payable, and receiving procedures

  • Knowledge of inventory systems. Knowledge of forklift operations

Preferred Other Factors:

  • May, at times, need to act in a lead person role when organizing lifting or loading operations

Responsibilities:

  • OUTGOING - Domestic and International Freight Shipments - Organizes and prepares for shipping, both internationally and domestically, equipment, supplies, and goods bound supporting IODP-JRSO scientific expeditions. These shipments are prepared and shipped in a variety of containers, from small airfreight boxes to multiple sea-going containers and flat rack shipping units. Equipment is handled using a variety of methods, including several forklifts, pallet jacks, and by hand. Assists in preparing documentation, including hazardous material documentation, to ready the equipment, materials, goods, supplies for forwarding to domestic and international shipping destinations. Assists in preparing local equipment transport by loading equipment and supplies for local transport and preparing shipping documentation such as bills of lading, trucking pick tickets, etc. Responsible for compliance with hazardous material handling and shipping procedures, regulations, and document management. Stays abreast of changing rules and regulations in the intermodal transportation industry.

  • INCOMING - Domestic and International Freight Shipments - Receives internationally and domestically shipped equipment, supplies, and goods returning from IODP-JRSO scientific expeditions. These shipments are received in a variety of containers, from small airfreight boxes to multiple sea-going containers and flat rack shipping units. Equipment is handled using a variety of methods, including several forklifts, pallet jacks, and by hand. Assists in completing the receiving documentation associated with equipment, materials, goods, supplies received from domestic and international shipping destinations. Assists in delivering, both to internal and external customers, the science samples, equipment, supplies, and other goods. Assists in tracking the status of goods in transit.

  • Maintain Warehouse Facilities - Organizes, cleans, and maintains equipment and facilities related to IODP-JRSO shipping and receiving operations, including maintaining stockroom levels of consumable equipment and supplies related to the shipping and receiving operations. These facilities include both indoor climate-controlled and outdoor non-climate-controlled warehouse facilities and outdoor pipe laydown yard. Assists in monitoring safety procedures in the Shipping/Receiving loading dock area and shop.

  • Supply Pick-up and Delivery - Operates TAMU or other vehicles to pick-up or deliver small local packages, equipment, and supplies for a variety of internal customers. Performs other duties as assigned.
