Under the direction of the Asset Management Program Manager, the GIS Technician will perform a variety of field and office duties and provide geospatial services to the Public Works Department using GIS- and GIS-affiliated hardware, software and data. This includes: maps production; collecting, managing, and analyzing geospatial and related tabular data; writing database queries; scripting, coding, and/or programming; ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
Maintain and update the databases and associated cartographic products for the multiple divisions within the Public Works Department that use geospatial data
Locate new and existing infrastructure in the field and with aerial/satellite imagery using GIS/GPS tools and principals and record relevant geospatial data
Develop computer applications to streamline GIS and office tasks.
Write database queries for the Public Works Department
Develop and maintain presentation-grade maps for upper management
Fulfill internal and external requests for Public Works related asset information.
Provide technical support to the Public Works Department.
Train the Public Works GIS Intern(s).
Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Science or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge of fundamental GIS/GPS principles and practices.
Experience with MS Windows, Windows-based applications, ESRI ArcGIS & ArcGIS Online.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License.
One (1) year of work experience with GIS.
Experience working with enterprise level Spatial Database Engines (ArcSDE).
Experience adding attachments to features via the attribute and/or table window.
Experience with Trimble GPS.
Experience with GIS-centric Asset Management Software.
Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
