Army National Guard Units SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC INSPECTOR in Camp Mabry, Texas

Summary

This position is located within the J4, CSMS, and is located at Camp Mabry, in Austin, TX. The purpose of this position is to serve as an inspector of surface maintenance vehicles and equipment to ensure that physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards and specifications. Duties involve complex inspection work, requiring a wide variety of inspection processes and techniques, at remote worksites or field installations where a supervisor is not readily available.

Responsibilities

Surface Maintenance Mechanic Inspector Inspects a large variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles such as attack tanks, large cranes, tank retrievers, fire trucks, bridge transporters, armored vehicle launched bridges, bulldozers, road graders, crawler tractors, power shovels, self propelled earth compacting equipment, self propelled artillery, etc. Inspects complex, interrelated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical systems, equipment and their components while in operation or in a standby condition. Inspects equipment to determine repairs needed. Utilizes established Maintenance Expenditure Limits (MEL) to evaluate economic feasibility of repair(s). Inspects the full range of equipment as described above at remote worksites in support of field organizations, field units during field exercise training periods, or before major pieces of equipment are sent for repair to a supporting maintenance facility. Appointment Factor(s): This is an Indefinite Excepted Service position open nationwide including, members assigned to the Texas Army National Guard. Indefinite appointments are used when there is a need for a temporary position to extend beyond one year or management expects the position to become permanent at some time in the future. Competitive procedures must be used when filling a position on an indefinite basis. Areas of Consideration: Nationwide Excepted. This includes: All currently employed full-time permanent, indefinite, and temporary personnel of the Texas Army National Guard. All current members of the Army National Guard and individuals eligible for membership in the Texas Army National Guard Incentives: Acceptance of a military Federal technician position may result in termination and / or repayment of military incentives. Qualifications

To qualify at the WG-12 grade level your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting the following: Specialized Experience Required Must have at least 18 months experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems.
