Do you want to be part of a Data Engineering team building the next generation analytics platform for a leading financial firm with $3 Trillion in assets under management? At Schwab, the Global Data Technology (GDT) organization governs the strategy and implementation of the enterprise data warehouse and emerging data platforms. We help Marketing, Finance, Risk and executive leadership make fact-based decisions by integrating and analyzing data.

We are looking for a Managing Director who has a passion for data and the new data technology platforms that support business insight and analytics coupled with strong machine learning practice & platform. We need someone with experience evaluating and implementing data solutions across a wide variety of tools and technologies.

As a Managing Director for Data Platforms & Engineering, you will be responsible for partnering with technology leadership team across various business units and enterprise leadership teams to understand and interpret solution requirements to define capabilities for enterprise platforms. The role also includes working with Platform Architects to ensure technical integrity and consistency of solutions with Schwab’s strategy and standards.

This role requires someone excited to advance a team through the transition from traditional data solutions to emerging data platforms.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with technology product owners to understand business requirements and use cases

  • Partner with Technical Directors and Principal Architect to evaluate tools for use case fit, perform vendor/tool comparisons and present recommendations

  • Create technical and business solutions architectures (logical and physical) for platform capabilities including augmenting capabilities through third party tools

  • Review tools, security and capability patterns for Hadoop and Machine Learning environments

  • Resolve questions during design and implementation of architecture for platform capabilities

  • Create roadmaps for big data platforms and machine learning practice

  • Prototype solutions for specific use cases especially for machine learning

  • Advise peers and business partners on fit-for-use and technical complexities

  • Partner with other technical leaders for solution alignment with strategy and standards

What you have:

  • Hands-on experience with Hadoop, Teradata (or other MPP RDBMS), MapReduce, Hive, Sqoop, Splunk, STORM, SPARK, Kafka and HBASE (At least 2 years)

  • Experience with end-to-end solution architecture for data capabilities including:Fluent understanding of best practices for building Data Lake and analytical architectures on HadoopStrong scripting / programming background (Unix, Python preferred)

  • Experience with ELT/ETL development, patterns and tooling (Informatica, Talend)

  • Experience with BI tools (BusinessObjects, Tableau) and other visualization (D3)

  • Experience with Advanced Analytics (SAS, R)

  • Experience with Graph and In-memory databases

  • Experience with Machine Learning techniques and practices

  • Experience with Test Driven Code Development and SCM tools

  • Strong SQL experience with the ability to develop, tune and debug complex SQL applications

  • Expertise in schema design, developing data models and proven ability to work with complex data is required

  • Proven experience in working in large environments such as RDBMS, EDW, NoSQL, Hadoop etc.

  • Understanding security, encryption and masking using various technologies including Kerberos, MapR-tickets, Vormetric and Voltage

  • Experience in creating a machine learning practice / environment is required.

  • Familiarity with MapR distribution of Hadoop is preferred
