At Schwab, the Data and Rep Technology (DaRT) organization leads the strategy, implementation and management of enterprise data, along with the tools and solutions enabling our sales and service professionals. Data domain focus is continuing to enable the management of data as assets and the delivery of data along the value-chain across Schwab, while modernizing platforms and capabilities to remain current and competitive in this rapidly progressing area. DaRT positions Marketing, Finance, Risk and various P&Ls to make fact-based decisions by integrating and analyzing data, as well as operationally leverage that data for market advantage. The team supports delivery of innovative client experience capabilities and rich business insight, through robust and evolving enterprise data-driven capabilities.
Schwab is looking for a Distinguished Data Architect, serving as the Chief Data Architect for DaRT, who has a passion for data and the new technology paradigms enabling the next generation analytic and operating capabilities driven by data. This individual will provide architectural leadership to create the architectural vision for data technology, along with a pragmatic evolutionary strategy allowing for current and incremental business needs to be supported as the capabilities landscape evolves.
What you are good at
Define and establish technical strategy, standards, and guidelines in the data architecture domain, focusing on Data Platforms, Data Integration, Data Reporting & Analytics, Data Science, and Data Governance.
Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to align on a data strategy that accounts for business objectives, broader technology organization objectives, and enterprise architecture standards.
Develop and evolve our data strategy blueprints that provide a 3 – 5-year view of the Data space, while accounting for incremental and iterative delivery needs.
Pragmatically enforce data architecture principles, standards, and patterns using established Enterprise Architecture governance processes and frameworks.
Articulate and prescribe fit-for-purpose guidance for various data & analytics platforms considering both functional requirements and non-functional requirements such as extensibility, scalability, economics, and time-to-insight.
Effectively communicate the DaRT data architecture to business and technical stakeholders across senior levels of the organization.
Consult with, educate, and mentor architects and technical leaders across the firm on modern data architecture practices.
Develop and maintain strong awareness and acumen of Schwab’s business and data domains and the financial industry standards and regulations.
Plan and lead architecture initiatives across IT and business organizations and teams
Assist teams in the delivery of project efforts focused on key business objectives and outcomes.
Support the legacy applications through their modernization journey.
Providing thought leadership around technical solutions and be an active member of a collaborative senior architecture team that solves cross-organizational problems and aspirations.
What you have
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
Skilled in communicating complex technical operational concepts and requirements to both technical and nontechnical audiences
Ability to carry and execute vision and strategy across a highly matrixed organization to influence key stakeholders on the design and implementation of the data transformation
Inspiring, transformational leader and change agent capable of setting bold strategic vision/direction and then enabling and implementing change
7+ years of experience in an enterprise data architecture role driving data and information related technology strategy with more than 3+ years specializing in Big Data architecture. (Big Data, DW, BI platforms)
Knowledge and experience with Big Data Hadoop Stack (Hive, Spark, Flume, Map-Reduce, Pig, Sqoop, etc.), NoSQL, and other industry leading cloud-based technologies.
Knowledge and experience with massively parallel processing (MPP) database platforms such as Teradata, BigQuery, Redshift, or Snowflake for advanced analytical workloads.
Experience designing and deploying enterprise solutions on cloud-based data & analytics platforms, include Google Cloud Platform.
Strong, in-depth experience in data modeling and experience with, advanced Data Science productionalization, Continuous Machine Learning and Business Intelligence systems (dimensional modeling, data mining, predictive analytics).
Broad-based architecture acumen: Analytic Data Architecture, Data Architecture, Public and Private Cloud offerings, Enterprise Architecture, ETL, SOA, etc.
Ability to articulate verbally and through formal presentations complex architectural and design strategies, options and decisions to executives in a succinct and compelling fashion
Command of technologies down to the implementation level that allows for technical leads to connect the dots of specific use cases with larger strategic architectural principles, and patterns
Unfailing ability to manage and meet expectations of executives, peers and technical staff
Programming experience across heterogeneous platforms including SQL, PL/SQL, Java, Perl, Python, JSON, XML, etc.
Versed in multi-tenant, high-availability production environments
Experience with Agile Delivery in a multi-disciplinary, matrixed environment.
Strong organizational, critical thinking, facilitation capabilities and the interpersonal skills necessary to assess complex problems, analyze options, navigate diverse perspectives and objectives and develop appropriate data management solutions
Strong work ethic, positive demeanor, and drive to see projects through to successful completion. Assertive and proactive and can bring out the best in others.
