Home Depot BlackLocus Development Manager in Austin, Texas

POSITION PURPOSE

We are looking for a Development Manager to lead a team of engineers in delivering high-quality technology solutions for BlackLocus. As manager, you will lead this engineering team to balance short-term and long-term commitments and goals. You will be involved in a wide range of activities including coaching and mentoring engineers, scoping project work for both business and technical aspects, collaborating with product and data science, and managing post-deployment analysis. Our data mining and machine learning pipeline, as well as our user-facing applications, are built primarily in Java, Python, Go, and JavaScript. Our services and tools are entirely cloud-deployed.

Specific responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Prior success as a Software Developer working on challenging problems

  • Knowledge on how to guide a small team to achieve important goals together

  • Desire and capability to coach developers, helping them improve their skills and grow their careers

  • Desire to foster collaboration between engineering teams to solve tough business problems

  • Experience managing sprint cycles to ensure product ships on time and with quality

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

50%-Managing sprint cycles to ensure products ship on time and with quality

20%-Guiding the team to achieve goals

10%-Fostering collaboration between engineering teams

20%-Coaching the developers, helping them grow their capabilities and careers

NATURE AND SCOPE

This position reports to Head of Engineering

This position has no Direct Reports

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Environment:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 4 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Additional Qualifications:

Strong Engineer, with management skills and the ability to prioritize and guide and grow individuals and work cross functionally between engineering, product and overall customer success

  • Natural leadership ability, easily earns and has the respect of the engineering team.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

Strong background as a Senior Software Engineer. Understands the scope of projects. Able to help manage the work flow, and the team that this Development Manager is responsible for. This Dev Manager will also have the ability to help guide, and grow individuals career paths. Must have strong people skills and must have natural leadership ability.
