CAPT ED ALONZO/BILL SUTTON Sorting Room Worker in Abilene, Texas

Job Summary:Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the Salvation Army Family Store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the store and sorting room area.Essential Functions:This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.Sorting Room Responsibilities (70%)Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition; selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; assists with hauling donations to the storage area as needed; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed.Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures; hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.Packs items in boxes and marks boxes accordingly; assists in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area; lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.Prepares non-suitable clothes for the baler.Sorting Room Orderliness and Cleanliness Responsibilities (30%) Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables and work areas.Cleans all display racks and shelves; sweeps and mops floors; cleans windows and mirrors; ensures that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner.Places and arranges items in the store as directed.Other Responsibilities:Assists customers in carrying purchased/donated items in/out of the store.Acts as backup to driver in absences and vacancies.Performs other duties as assigned.Materials and Equipment:Hand Truck General Office EquipmentKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Education and Experience:High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred,AndOne year experience working in a warehouse preferred,Orany equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Certifications:Valid State Drivers LicenseForklift Certification (or ability obtain within established timeframe)Physical Requirements:Ability to meet attendance requirements.Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.Duties are usually performed standing. Standing may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.Moderate physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to moderately heavy objects (up to 75 lbs.) frequently.Working Conditions:Work is normally performed in a normal warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changed in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
