About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Responsibilities
  • Conduct visual, functional, and dimensional inspection of the work in process to assure compliance with quality standards.
  • Inspects track sections and rolls, for proper ground, current direction, assembly of grausers, correct torque of wedge bolt nuts and center guide nuts and correct caliper of center guides.
  • Inspect proper preparation, paint, welding and mechanical operations of roadwheels.
  • Conduct variety of tests such as, pull test, drum test on first article (new contract) and new procurement rubber.
  • Investigates causes of critical or major defects, and may stop production to correct discrepancies or unsafe practices.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Rubber Worker Inspector with the ability to perform common Rubber Worker inspecting,rebuild track blocks and road wheels; Examine items for such defects as enlarged bolt holes, rim bends, cracks in metals, incomplete or improper cure of rubber, soft spots, improper trim and lack of adhesion; Recondition track blocks, steel road wheels, and aluminum road wheels; Or operates various of mold curing equipment. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Work is performed inside on concrete floor. Clothing becomes easily soiled from dust, rubber shavings, etc. Exposed to heat from molds and fumes from rubber solvents.
