This position is located in Smithville, Texas working within the Facilities Management Department at the Virginia Harris Cockrell Cancer Research Center at Science Park. The position is full-time, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (on-call/after-hours/emergency response as needed), Monday through Friday.

Salary range: $36,800 (min) - $46,000 (mid) - $55,200 (max)

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Electrician position is to provide journeyman level skilled electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical components and systems. Impacts institutional electrical systems and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Interprets and works from instructions, blueprints, sketches and diagrams in the installation of electrical systems. Estimates cost of work and may order materials and maintain inventory. Performs a variety of electrical work. May coordinate the workflow of technicians and mechanics. Investigates outages.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Installation, Alteration, Operation, Maintenance, and Repair

Installs, alters, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, adjusts, and repairs electrical components, equipment, and systems, including campus normal and emergency power utility equipment and systems, generators, automatic transfer switches, transformers, switchgear, distribution systems, panelboards, lighting systems, fire alarm and fire protection systems, etc.

Performs a variety of electrical work incidental to the installation and repair of equipment and systems. Responds to and investigates outages.

Troubleshoots failures and takes necessary corrective actions. Responds to equipment issues, customer requests, and

campus alarms (critical, facility, and fire).

Responds to and triages critical equipment alarms and makes

repairs as necessary.

Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas. Follows all safety precautions, and ensures knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.

Accurately and timely completes all required paperwork – activity logs, etc. 10.

Is able to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and floor plans. Has knowledge of typical electrical control strategies, diagrams, and sequences.

Interprets and works from instructions, blueprints, sketches, and diagrams in the installation of electrical systems.

Operates and maintains campus fire alarm/protection and emergency generator/ATS systems to meet all requirements of NFPA.

Responds to and investigates utility and system outages.

Preventative Maintenance

Performs preventative maintenance of above electrical and utility systems and equipment.

On-Call / After-Hours / Emergency Response

Provides on-call after-hours and emergency response and maintenance/repair. Coordinates with and provides backup support for work performed by other shops (HVAC, Stationary Engineering, Plumbing, and General Maintenance), which requires a basic knowledge of overall physical plant operations.

General Assistance and Support

Provides general assistance and support to the campus and other craft/trades. May coordinate the workflow of technicians and mechanics.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a recognized apprenticeship.

Preferred Education: None.

Certification: Licensed as a journeyman electrician in the State of Texas.

PreferredCertification: Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver's license and eligible to drive State and institutional vehicles.

Experience: One year experience in commercial/industrial journeyman level electrical work involving interior and exterior wiring and the repair of electrical equipment and systems and completion of recognized apprenticeship in the trade.

Preferred Experience: None.
