Corporate Controller REPORTS TO: VP Finance / Chief Financial Officer INDUSTRY: Oil and Gas DEFINITION As a key member of the Finance team, this person will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting close process, the timely and accurate reporting of all financial data, and for providing financial reports required by company management and regulatory and rating agencies. The Corporate Controller will work closely with the company's outside auditors as well as the internal operational teams to refine and support an effective environment of financial reporting and controls. He or she will direct and control the cost accounting, general accounting and budgeting functions, be responsible for the development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information to appraise profitability, capital expenditures and performance against budget. Directs internal audits. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes and maintains an accounting system which guarantees the accurate presentation of financial results.

  • Issues internal and external financial reports in order to provide management, the Board of Directors, the policyholders, the regulatory bodies, and the rating agencies with a precise review of the firm's financial position.

  • Lead the relationship with our independent auditors; manage the annual audit and quarterly review process.

  • Work collaboratively with the SEC Reporting Director in preparation of the quarterly earnings releases, external reporting, and investor-facing calls.

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce technical accounting policies and procedures in accordance with US GAAP, identify relevant changes in accounting guidance, and monitor processes for compliance with accounting literature.

  • Recommend accounting treatment for business development transactions.

  • Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Implement appropriate controls.

  • Oversee compliance and filings for all areas of tax, including corporate income tax and use tax.

  • Help set a "tone at the top" that stresses ethics, integrity, and good governance.

  • Prepares the annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors. Monitors the budget by working closely with department heads in meeting their budgetary restrictions.

  • Responsible for the risk management program assessing the risk and insuring company assets.

  • Responsible for accounting and control of capital assets other than invested assets.

  • Other duties as assigned and such other movement, strength, stamina and flexibility as may be required to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • B.S. Degree in Accounting or Finance, with a working knowledge of accounting systems, well developed financial analysis capabilities, and demonstrated computer literacy

  • 10+ years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility

  • A minimum of four years of experience gained through increasingly responsibility

  • Comprehensive knowledge of US GAAP required, with expertise in technical accounting and internal controls

  • Prior roles in a publicly traded oil and gas company experience preferred

  • Experience in transitioning companies from private to public preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in researching documenting new accounting guidance and the accounting treatment of complex issues, such as revenue recognition, stock compensation, fair value, etc.

  • Must be a working manager, capable of operating in a fast-paced environment, able to handle pressure well, be self-motivated and detail oriented

  • Ability to proactively identify and solve problems

  • Unquestionable integrity and judgment

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and good independent judgment

  • A proven track record of identifying and developing talented team members
