Overview:

Serve as primary accounting contact over an assigned group of accountants or team. Ensures US GAAP/proper accounting treatment is applied, controls are set-up/maintained, efficient processes, and successful execution of initiatives within accounting. May work with franchisees and cross functional teams to answer questions, train, and improve processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Accountants which may include exempt and non-exempt personnel.

  • Approve and submit time cards for staff to ensure accurate and timely payroll.

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries and corrections including accruals, re-classes, and adjustments and monthly account reconciliations.

  • Report findings to Supervisor and/or Manager.

  • Manage, coordinate and follow up with various internal departments as necessary.

  • Review, approve and post Asset Transfers and Initial & Final Settlements for all changeover stores and ensure entries are accurate, complete and prepared timely.

  • Handling of ad-hoc inquiries from the field and FZs on Financial Statement questions, various accounting entires, etc. (emails or Remedy tickets).

  • Help and coach in escalated customer service related cases and training of franchisees and other corporate personnel, as needed.

  • Respond to monthly, quarterly, and annual audit requests from internal and external auditors.

  • Maintain process flow documentation to aid in SOX compliance.

  • Assist in ensuring key controls within the Acctg Dept are documented, effective & internally tested yearly.

  • Support Accounting Systems Improvement updates - assist Manager of Accounting on Accounting systems updates and coach and manage team on successful change management and implementation.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors/ 4 yr degree, Masters degree preferred. Public accounting preferred. People management/management of teams strongly preferred.

  • 3-5 Years accounting experience, preferably in a retail or other multi-unit environment.

  • CPA or CPA Eligible.

  • Strong leadership skills and cross-functional relationship-building abilities at all levels.

  • Strong technical accounting background, including General Ledger Accounting, reconciliations, excel analysis, strong Microsoft Office knowledge.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required to understand and appropriately respond to a variety of business process issues.

  • Ability and interest in systems and accounting processes; detail oriented with a big-picture outlook.
