About the role:

The primary role of the Completions Engineering Advisor is to provide expert-level technical support to BHP’s Completion Engineers. Other responsibilities include: assuring evaluation and implementation of the latest technology in completions operations; troubleshoot operational or technical problems associated with completion operations; ensuring adherence to regulatory and corporate standards and practices.

This is a grade 12 role.

In this role you will:

  • Understanding of fracture design evaluation and optimization as it applies to unconventional onshore reservoirs.

  • Knowledge of frac model inputs and model verification processes; reservoir properties, geo-mechanical properties and diagnostic methods

  • Provide inputs into Basis of Well Design & Basis of Completion Design processes for shale plays

  • Ensure fracture optimization considerations are included in well pad and well density designs

  • Evaluate leading edge and developing technologies with industry service suppliers and industry experts

  • Actively work with a multi-discipline team of drilling engineering, production engineering, reservoir engineering, geo-mechanical engineering, and geologists

  • Participate in field diagnostic reviews that will verify completion and well design functionality as well as aiding in optimization of fracture design; this includes staying abreast of field completion results

  • Evaluate well design techniques and shale performance trends. Work with completion engineers to ensure requirements contained in the Basis of Completion Design are implemented.

  • Provide operational support and mentoring to Completion and Operations Engineers to evaluate and optimise completions.

About you:

  • BS Degree in Engineering

  • +25 years relevant engineering experience

  • Extensive experience in well stimulation practices in unconventional shale basins(e.g., hydraulic fracturing design, DFIT execution & evaluation, history & pressure matching)

  • Knowledge of onshore shale well stimulation across multiple basins

  • Understanding of frac and geo-mechanical models (e.g. StimPlan and Petrel)
