Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in setting up, installing, repairing and maintaining machinery and equipment, and in fabricating metal parts and tools.

Objectives:

  • Responsible for leading the maintenance activities to achieve reliable excellence through the daily execution of effective and timely preventative maintenance activities and repairs of equipment and machinery

  • Lead the maintenance activities for all buildings, building equipment, facilities, and grounds to meet business requirements

  • Ensures the effective supervision of the assigned maintenance hourly employees engaged in the maintenance process while focusing on safety, people development, equipment reliability, and customer service

  • Maximizes equipment reliability in assigned area by ensuring all employees are properly trained and held accountable in the proper and timely execution of preventive maintenance activities and repairs to machinery and equipment

  • Partners with production staff to eliminate the causes of production delays resulting from equipment failures

  • Monitors delay records and assist in the root cause identification of mechanical and electrical delays

  • Advises immediate Manager, Peers, and Production counterparts of all actual or potential maintenance problems causing mechanical or electrical delay or shutdown to operations, and takes expedient corrective action to address the issue

  • Determines the effectiveness of manpower utilization, working procedures and cost control measures and consults with immediate Manager, Peers, and Production counterparts to develop methods for improvement

  • Recommends materials and equipment required for maintenance and repair jobs

  • Oversees requisitions process to include stocking material and equipment necessary for mechanical and electrical maintenance operations

  • Oversees contract labor required on maintenance, repair, and construction jobs

  • Oversees implementation and maintenance of the CMMS system

  • Directs and administer the Plant Mechanical Integrity Programs, including evaluating condition of equipment to predict life needed maintenance intervals, identify bad actors and develop mitigating strategies

  • Directs Predictive and Preventative Maintenance strategies for equipment including critical spares program

  • Provides technical expertise to Operations, Maintenance, and other technical personnel in the design and specifications for equipment, vendor bid evaluation and equipment selection

  • Acts as Weir SPM’s agent with city and state agencies and ensures facility compliance with all regulations.

  • Resource to implement Lean Initiatives, including TPM and 5S activities

  • Must be able to quickly learn and demonstrate proficient process knowledge in assigned area

  • Must have the ability to plan and direct the work of hourly employees, to diagnose and solve maintenance problems and have sufficient verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with hourly and salaried personnel

  • Must be able to effectively manage and lead hourly and salaried staff

  • Effectively develop and manage departmental and facility R&M budgets

  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic control is desired

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Must be able to lead 5-Why activities

  • Good understanding of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) metric

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines

  • Strong sense of urgency in learning and meeting customer needs

  • Must have a good understanding of safety processes and demonstrates a passion for following all established procedures

Education and/or Experience:

Associates or Bachelor Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Industrial technology and/or related field is desired. Also requires a minimum of 5-10 years of previous project leader or supervisory maintenance experience in a fast paced manufacturing and/or construction environment is required. Previous CNC experience with a good understanding of maintenance principles or similar heavy manufacturing repair is a plus. 6S work experience is a plus. Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment and concepts around properly repairing.

Language Skills:

Good oral and written communication skills. Good public speaking skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

Must be able to capture data in CMMS, excel, create graphs, analyze and interpret trends. Must be proficient in the utilization of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point software. Accounting, Database, Design, Development, Human Resource Systems, Inventory, Manufacturing, Order Processing, Payroll, Project Management, Spreadsheet, Word Processing.

Physical Demands:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
