U.S. Army Medical Command Training Instructor in Fort Sam Houston, Texas

About the Position:The incumbent serves as a Training Instructor in support of in support of training operations of the DoD Electronic Health Record (EHR), which include outpatient clinical information systems and inpatient clinical systems, in conjunction with Office Automation (OA) applications. The position is located in the Information Management Division at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX.

You will perform a variety of Electronic Health Record (EHR) training management tasks. You will perform implementation and training duties associated with provider, nursing, support staff and clerical user access, profiles, and patient management. You will communicate with system users and system developers and identify changes in the system or hospital clinical environment that will affect training. You will coordinate activities among supervisors, facility trainers, contractors, and Project Management Offices. As redesign projects are implemented, you will make necessary modifications to the program to enhance project implementation. Based on performance results, you will identify necessary revisions in content objectives, testing criteria, and/or test items. You will develop reports on the status of projects for which responsible. You will review new or changed training procedures, policies, and regulations, and ensure implementation.

Specialized Experience: Experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
- Knowledge of the Training Techniques and Methods within an Outpatient Clinic and/or Hospital
- Knowledge of Program Management, Guidance, and Support
- Knowledge of Automated Electronic Health Record (EHR) Systems
- Skill in Oral Communication
- Ability to Determine Job Training and Development Requirements
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-11: Successful completion of at least a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education.
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-11: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 18 hours (total semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
