Texas Health Resources Clinical Lab Assistant in Denton, Texas

Qualifications/Duties:

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton is seeking a part time Clinical Lab Assistant for their laboratory.

Hours:

• Park Time; 1st Shift

• Saturday/Sunday; 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM

Required minimum education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Required minimum experience:

• No experience required

• Prefer 6: months experience as a phlebotomist or completion of a one semester course in phlebotomy

Required license/certification

• None required

• Prefer: PBT (ASCP)

Required skills:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment

• Strong critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills

• Proficient in basic computer skills

• Prefer: Venipuncture skills with all age groups

Job Responsibilities:

Specimen Collection and Processing

• Follows laboratory procedure for specimen collection, handling and processing in a manner which is appropriate to the age of the patient. (neonate through geriatric)

• Follows laboratory procedures for hanlding unacceptable specimens

• Resolves pending specimen issues

• Coordinates timed, routine, ASAP and STAT draws to prevent multiple sticks to the patient and to prevent excessive blood volume draws

• Uses two identifiers according to hospital policy when collecting and processing specimens

• Responds to CODEs when appropriate

• Responds to summons to complete difficult blood collection for hospital personnel

• Ensures test orders are initiated and resolves any discrepancies. Reviews physician orders to ensure all tests are ordered in LIS

• Timed, ASAP and STAT draws are drawn and processed within established time frames

• Communication with nursing personnel as needed to clarify orders or inform of specimen integrity issues

• Understands and relays information on specimen requirements for in-house and reference lab testing

• Accurate entry of client information and test orders into LIS

• Specimens processed accurately and in a timely manner for referral tests

• Monitors tests ordered and adds on or cancels tests as needed
