Markit’s Infrastructure team consists of over 180 IT Professionals supporting 3,200 users and circa 5,000 Linux and Windows servers. Support staff is based in seven major locations (New York, London, Dallas, Boulder, Amsterdam, India and Singapore) which allows Infrastructure to provide ‘follow-the-sun’ support to our product groups on a 24 x 5 basis.

The aim of Infrastructure is to deliver a globally consistent operational model with consolidated toolsets and compliant processes across for Markit. Infrastructure will be organised on a Global, Regional and Local basis with the appropriate capabilities in each area to meet the business needs and drive the most efficient organisation.

Position summary

Markit is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to lead service improvement and engineering project deployment work. The candidate will be working closely with the Markit business and infrastructure groups and must be result-oriented leader capable of leading Network Operations team members and delivering high quality results under tight timelines and stressful conditions. Candidate should demonstrate high technical skills and real life experience in the enterprise networks support and design. Candidate should show interest and experience in both the Engineering and operations side of the Enterprise network and be willing to take on all aspects of design, deployment and operational documentation, automation and handoff.

Duties & accountabilities

The Senior Engineer will be accountable for the following:

  • Must have/or had have CCNP Certification

  • Perform escalations support to the Level-1 and 2 network operations team

  • Deploy new network infrastructure including racking, cabling designs when needed.

  • Procure new and upgrade existing telco connections

  • Design and implement new network services

  • Work on improvement of existing network infrastructure and services

  • Work with customers, vendors and acquired businesses to establish network connectivity and perform network integration

  • Work on network deployments process to include automation through scripting

  • Candidate should be able to demonstrate their skills in solving network-related issues with RIP, OSPF, EIGP, BGP, MPLS, Multicast, LAN switching, firewalls and load balancers

  • Candidate should be familiar with managing project deployments and working with server/storage/security teams to understand the requirements.

Business competencies

Education and experience

10-15 years of networking and wide area networking experience in a Cisco environment.

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field desired.

Commercial awareness

Ability to work with business stakeholders and understand underlying business objectives and commercial impact of solutions.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Proven track record of generating and maintaining documentation.

Fluency in English is required.

Demonstrable experience of working in a geographically dispersed team across time zones.
