NAES Corporation Operations Technician - Major Oak in Bremond, Texas
NAES Corporation has an immediate opening for an Operations Technician at the Major Oak Power facility located in Bremond, TX.
Major Oak is a 305 megawatt lignite-fired power plant in Robertson County, near Bremond, Texas, about 150 miles south of Dallas and 160 miles northwest of Houston. The plant uses circulating fluidized-bed combustion technology that minimizes emissions and reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx). The injection of crushed limestone in the process is used to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions.
Operate and monitor plant generating equipment and take appropriate actions to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation of the plant.
Completes ongoing training and progress in order to obtain additional responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:
In accordance with written plant procedures:
Operate and monitor plant auxiliary, fuel yard, and limestone handling equipment such as pumps, fans, compressors, valves, crushers, conveyors, etc.
Isolate auxiliary equipment associated with plant clearances authorized by the Team Leader and/or Control Room Operator.
Review plant logs ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Assist with switching programs in the switchyard. Make sure all switching is performed properly.
Effectively communicate operational problems, work schedules, etc. not only with operations, but also with other plant crafts.
Participate in training and assist in training of other plant employees.
Promote a good attitude, teamwork and professionalism within the crew.
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
Demonstrated knowledge of plant systems including detailed knowledge and understanding of the relationship between systems and equipment.
Basic knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
Basic knowledge of the water treatment systems and the procedures related to operating the demineralizer and reverse osmosis systems.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to perform simple math computations.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems that involve several distinct variables.

The Operations Technician reports to the Operations Manager and works in cooperation with the operating utility on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant; takes direction from the Plant Manager in the absence of the Operations Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. The Operations Technician is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and wet or humid conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to high noise levels, equipment vibration, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.
Position requires working 12 hour rotating shift schedule with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
High school diploma or equivalent
